Pooplists 2022

Main Poop Analysis 2022

Dear POOPsters: Time to POOP. For the 36th consecutive year, we POmpous and OPinionated rut-stuck regulars have re-convened to share the fruits of our music habits. In all 21 have weighed in and tilted at internet windmills this year. Even a few prodigal POOPsters have returned to the fold. That’s pretty encouraging given all that’s happened in America this past year; at least our Right To Choose music remains intact even if little else does. After fifteen separate ballots in the House of POOPresentatives, we have finally reached a consensus. I’ve once again employed the time-honored tabulation system, utilizing the…

Jim Meyers Poop 2022

I haven’t heard that much new music this year. Maybe I’m old. Or I don’t have Spotify or Sirius. Or that I just listen to records. Perhaps that’s redundant. — — Wet Leg, Fontaines DC, The Beths, Pup, Frightened Rabbit, Horsegirl, The 1975, Destroyer, Wilco, Alvvays …

Bob Lukomski Poop 2022

This year started off okay, even got across the pond for a couple weeks. Then the chest pains and shortness of breath… I’m now the proud owner of two stents (thereby putting the stent in “stentorian”). Physical recovery was quick, mental processing took a while longer. An excuse to start going out to shows (Roxy Music, Heaven 17, Stereolab, and a fair amount of local fare). Still, got some fun tunage over the course of the year, some return visits from old friends here (if you’ve been inspecting my pOOp from the past few years). As always, I bought more current year releases than listed, but don’t take this as a top 10 list. It’s just what’s been tickling my ears most. — Malka Spigel, Can, Loop, Adi Newton, Stephen Mallinder, Brian Eno, Left Hand Right Hand, Faust, Jochen Arbeit + Sonja Kosche, Anthology of Contemporary Music from South Africa …

Ron Hart Poop 2022

Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal, Harry Styles, Black Thought and Danger Mouse, Rosalia, Eddie Vedder, Billy Woods, Sudan Archives, Midnight Oil, Horace Andy, Cave In …

Scott Dell’Amore Poop 2022

fourteen.audio.fifteen.visual. — continuing the tradition of waiting until the very last possible moment to actually construct a list of all of the distracting media that i’ve consumed and adored over the course of the past year, i happily present said list for your eleventh-hour consideration. —
Kendrick Lamar, Chat Pile, Mindforce, End It, Tyler Childers, Danger Mouse & Black Thought, Oxbow & Peter Brötzmann, Keiji Haino & Sumac, Billy Strings …

Don Cohen Poop 2022

“One morning I woke up and I knew you were really gone…”

As I write this, I find myself still reeling after the deaths of Crosby, Beck and Ian Tyson all within the previous two weeks. Croz’s passing hit me the hardest. His death, though not surprising (he sure beat the odds to get to 81), still was an unexpected shock. It’s so strange to follow the trajectory, full circle, sometimes for 60+ years, of favorite musicians. Then again, I count myself lucky to still be around for the entire arc of their careers. —
Ondara, Alex G., Big Thief, Bonny Light Horseman, Calexico, Bill Callahan and Bonnie Prince Billy, Jimmy Cliff, Elvis Costello, Robyn Hitchcock …

Jay Stewart Poop 2022

Jay Stewart Best of 2022 (Sort of Pandemic Edition) — Well as I rapidly go downhill with myself heading into my mid 50’s. I guess I still love enough new music but I am the first to tell you I am not with it and I am alright with that. Though I am glad Stranger Things has introduced Kate Bush to a whole generation and I am here to enjoy it. — Wet Leg, Carolyn Marosy, Lizzo, Tears For Tears, Rammstein, Arctic Monkey, Angel Olson, Kendrick Lamar, Def Leppard, Classless Act,

Fix Poop 2022

Mark Rosen Poop 2022

My POOP DISC-CLAIMER (disc-lamer?): As years go I’ll give 2022 a semi-meh. As usual a good chunk of my list is made up of albums that in one way or another look back in time. It’s apparent that much of the music that called out to me in my teens and twenties still seems to drive my car. Music in the rear view mirror remains closer than it appears. —

Dropkick Murphys, Freakons, Lou Reed, Corb Lund, The Beatles, Len Price 3, Angeline Morrison, Willie Nelson,

Jim Finnigan Poop 2022

In this third year of the pandemic, I made a decision to slow down my record hunting activities and concentrate on exploring what’s already on my shelves (lots of shelves #fuckyeahphysicalmedia). But I found it a little difficult to go completely cold turkey so I still have enough new acquisitions to make a PooP List yet again. — Horace Andy, Pay It All Back Vol. 8, Dub No Frontiers, Jeb Loy Nichols, Spoon, Ghetto Priest x D.Foe, Mark Stewart, Holly Cook, Neneh Cherry, Karen Dalton, Dropkick Murphys, Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder

Eric Fine Poop 2022

When Mark reached out a few weeks with his annual reminder I thought to myself, hmmm, do I have it in me again? Then I realized how much I enjoy the process and how I always go in with such a negative attitude. Well, not this year. I am going to appreciate the opportunity to hear so much great new music and share with the world. So, thanks Mark for keeping the torch alive today and hopefully for another 25 years. — —
Wilco, Superchunk, Elvis Costello, Built To Spill,Father John Misty, Alex G, Perfume Genius, Tomberlin, The Smile, Big Thief,

Mike Jurkovic Poop 2022

PooPy23 yea yea I know I’ve done nothin but gripe over the last few years about the failed state of our democracy n rock n roll n the general collapse of any and all involved in our cultural degeneration but enough of that for this year. there’s always cable and streaming dystopias for all that. we’re gathered here at PooP HQ to step away and actually celebrate what little light managed to shine thru the bullet holes left by patriots n supremacists n just regular freakin knot-head incels. so as I work tirelessly to recount it all I’m listenin to…

John Lefsky – Poop 2022

I was gonna wait because there are still a dozen-ish things I’m still trying to absorb. I’ve dug more music than usual, this year, but I need to draw the line somewhere. Gonna try and not pontificate too much. Just about everything here is on Bandcamp, if you wanna give them s listen. — Freezing Hands // Lianne Hall // Oneida // The Sadies // Oh Boland // Hurry Up // The Len Price 3 // Nina Nastasia // Robyn Hitchcock // Exek

Matt Nerney Poop 2022

POOP 2022: I have to say that I don’t think 2022 was a banner year for music. Yes, there were a handful of releases that seem likely to stand the test of time. But only the very top albums had that great “album” feel, with quality and continuity running through all of the tracks. Many other albums had some great individual tracks, but didn’t seem to hold up across the length of the whole. Overall, though, most of what I heard was pretty underwhelming. Is this the way it’s always been? Or is this the way that I’ve always been?…
