Hoodoo Gurus – Purity of Essence (Hoodoo Gurus Records)
The award for greatest comeback release goes hands down to the Gurus. This is their best disc in 25 years. There are plenty of amazing hooks to go around.

Nightmares for a Week – Don’t Die (Academy Fight Song)
This is the first full-length release from our local heroes and all around great guys. The disc is full of what the fans come to expect. Again the band is showing their diversity of sound and influences.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Brutalist Bricks (Matador)
I know they’ve been around for a bit but this is the disc that really got me moving. It’s catchy at times and fist pumping at others.

No Age – Everything In Between (Sub Pop)
There’s some real sweet noise, as well as some down and out rockers on this disc. I can definitely hear some Eno influence going on.

Best Soundtrack:
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (ABKCO Records)
Great mix of bands but I really dig the songs from Sex Bob-Omb. They may be a fictional band but I love their dirty sound.

Best Live Disc:
Iggy Pop – California Hitchhike (+1 Records)
This disc is from the New Values tour in 1979 being backed by Glen Matlock and Brian James. Great set but missing “I’m Bored”.

Best Reissue/Comp
Fleshtones – It’s Super Rock Time (Raven)
Of course as soon as I picked this up they reissued Hexbreaker and Land Speed Connection together. The disc offers a great mix from their classic period of 1980-1985.
Best Live Show:
Hoodoo Gurus at The Bell House, Brooklyn:
They came out with my favorite track from the new disc and proceeded to go through their catalog to the joy of their aging, yet crazed, fans. Thanks Matt for sharing in the fun.

DVD:
Archer (Season 1):
There is NO other show like Archer. The humor hits every mark for me. I keep watching the mere 10 episodes over and over again and continue to laugh as if it were my first viewing.
I have to give props to Mister Lefsky for all his help making this years POOP possible. Can’t forget Manley for turning me on to No Age and Meyers/Greek for Ted Leo.
