John Lefsky Poop 09

I’m finding hard to be interesting, clever, whatever, this year. Most of you know that we lost one of our members, and I lost a friend and boss, Jack Goldberg. All I can hope for is that he would have liked some of the music on this list, and I am sure he would have found most of it annoying as hell.

On a positive note, there was so much good music this year, I couldn’t keep up. So, to get as many titles in as I can, I’m keeping the chatter down to…

Jay Reatard   Buy New or Used through amazon  OR   @ eMusic
1) Jay Reatard “WATCH ME FALL”
Four albums in two years, and he was just scratching the surface.

Wau y Los Arrrghs!!!   Buy New or Used through amazon   OR   @ eMusic
2) Wau Y Los Arrrghs!!! “VIVEN”
Most played record of the year. Short, sweet and, since I haven’t had a Spanish class since Mr. Cosich in the 10th grade, incomprehensible.

Kurt Vile   Buy New or Used through amazon  OR   @ eMusic
3) Kurt Vile “CHILDISH PRODIGY”
Sludgy psych folk, plenty of atmosphere, hooks popping out of the mud.

Vivian Girls   Buy New or Used through amazon   OR   @ eMusic
4) Vivian Girls “EVERYTHING GOES WRONG”
Like most of my list this year, I don’t care what they’re singing about, as long as it, ya know, rocks…

Evangelista  Buy New or Used through amazon   OR   @ eMusic
5) Evangelista “PRINCE OF TRUTH”
…with some exceptions. Carla Bozulich heads into some dark, claustrophobic places I’m usually eager to go. I haven’t spent the time with this record that it deserves, but anything Carla touches is gold.
