John Stewart Poop 2019

Here are my opening remarks. It’s best I don’t say anything about the current state of pop music. Because it’s pretty clear that critical opinions are not valued and get you a rage pile on. I guess I should just go to my corner and wait to die. But no I won’t. It’s not that I don’t want things to change. I recognize that change is inevitable. All music will change. But in our rush to embrace the new, we should not forget things that are tried and true. Like passion, melody and good lyrics. Something that you feel in your gut, something that makes you strut. These things are worth revisiting again and again. Even if music must change.

Instead of doing my normal tracks of the year. I am going to choose my favourite Van Halen tracks of all time. I understand as Pete Townshend wrote on the Who’s latest album that “All This Music Must Fade” Just as rock music has faded as has classic hip – hop, it’s hard for me to fathom that no one knows who Van Halen, Run – DMC or The Who are. But they may know Motley Crue partly because of the Netflix film “The Dirt”. But I have heard people call Van Halen just another “hair metal” band. No they weren’t. Not to me. They are one of America’s greatest rock bands of all time. Anyways here are the best tracks of Van Halen (David and Sammy, but mostly David). Start from here.
