Main Poop Analysis 2024

38th Annual Pooplist Logo

Dear POmpous and OPinionated Person,

To everything there is a POOP. This marks POOP’s 38th annual rite of passage, bringing both the usual musical musings to your device screens and even more digital clutter to your life. This is the point where I typically carp, grouse and grumble about the state of affairs in the nation and the world. But like many I am too numb and too exhausted (too pooped to pop, if you will) to deal with the dread I feel as I House prioritieswrite this on January 21st. It just feels different this time. Day by day, I get closer to not even recognizing my own country, a new feeling for me. At this point it’s brace for impact. But this does render the arrival of POOP to be most timely and welcome. Sixteen people chose to share their picks this year.

I’ve once again employed the longstanding and unimpeachable tabulation system, the Just-Take-My-Word-For-It methodology. As always, I’ve given 2 points to each pompoid’s Top 10 choices and 1 point to each title beyond a Top 10 or in the variously designated ‘honorable mention’ categories (up to 25 titles in all; more than 25 means half-points). Like last year, because we all seem to treat historical releases differently, I awarded 2 points to an archival title in someone’s Top 10 and 1½ points if the title was listed apart from the person’s main list. A bit of mathematical license has been exercised here and there. Note that because of the paucity of entries, one additional vote for any of these titles might have upended these numbers considerably.

So as per custom, I present the peaceful transfer of POOP:

The usual immense thank you is owed to Mark Zip, whose technical wizardry keeps POOP afloat and allows it to bob in the digital ether. The wonderful pooplist.net website that Zip maintains can only function as beautifully as it does with the donations from ‘Viewers Like You’ that help offset Zip’s web fees. If you have not yet hit the ‘Donate’ button at the top of the homepage, please consider doing so, and many thanks to all who have contributed. Both Marks thank you.

Next year in Greenland.
