WILD FLAG – S/T (Merge):
This disc is the real standout of the year for me. Harmonies and major guitar chops from both Carrie and Mary with Janet’s pounding backbeat keep this disc in the cd player.

Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds – Gorilla Rose (In The Red):
Former Gun Club-er and Cramp put out an amazing mix of sounds. Now it’s time to hit his back catalog.

Half Man Half Biscut – 90 Bisodol (Crimond) (Probe Plus):
I’ve only had this disc for a month and I just can’t get enough. Minus the attempt at country, the entire disc is a big thumbs up.

The Cramps – Trash is Neat Volume 5: The Band That Time Forgot (Manacoa):
This vinyl only release contains nothing but unreleased songs from shows throughout their early career. I also, as always, love the b-movie samples used between each song. Hoping someday there will be more hidden treasures that Ivy will put out for us.

Black Lips – Arabia Mountain (Vice):
A bit of a departure from their beginnings but it’s more my speed. It is a much catchier garage rock without the lo-fi mixing.

The B-52’s – With the Wild Crowd (Eagle):
It’s only taken the B’s over 30 years to finally put out a live slab of music for us fans to enjoy. They cover a lot of ground and the sound quality is amazing. Seeing them twice in 2011 my only issue is that they didn’t sing 52 Girls when I had seen them but having it on the disc makes up for it.

Ivan Julian – The Naked Flame (00:02:59):
The former Voidoid has put out a solid mix of rock/funky/punk music on this disc.

Jim Jones Revue – Burning Your House Down (Pias):
This is a major ivory slapping old school rock and roll jam out session. I’ve heard they are amazing live and need to make an effort to see what all the hype is about.

The Bon – Static Electricity (Boppa Do Down):
Another disc that I’v e only had for a month but in that short time it had definitely grown on me.
Best live shows:
- Wild Flag @ the Rock Shop (Prior to the disc coming out. Watching Janet behind her drum kit is always a highlight as well as Carrie’s Rock Goddess moves on stage.
- Wild Flag @ Bowery Ballroom
- The Cure @ Beacon Theatre (Three and a half hours of pure Cure goodness)
- X @ Irving Plaza (Los Angeles PLUS an amazing mix of stuff from their next three CLASSICS)
- The Reverend Horton Heat with Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band (Peyton gave Heat a run for his money)
- The B-52’s @ Irving Plaza (one of the most CRAZED B’s shows I’ve been to…and I’ve seen about 30)
Many thanks to Lefsky for pointing me in the right direction AGAIN.
