Jamie Hosley Poop 2010

Well 2010 is done, another year gone by, no pet monkey attacks occurred this year so that was a positive note overall. I started out with a list of 20 that I narrowed down to a core set of 10 albums that I came back to repeatedly throughout the year. Now on to the PoOP.

Albums of 2010

cover of High Violet
~ The National  Buy New or Used via Amazon
1. High Violet: The National
Hands down my favorite album of the year, listened to over and over again, in the car, on the iPod, around the house, could not get enough of these tracks. This album overall is personal and reflective and very refreshingly grown-up.

cover of Shame Shame: Dr. Dog  Buy New or Used via amazon
2. Shame Shame: Dr. Dog
The Beach Boys of Philadelphia deliver on that comparison on this album. The layered melodies and rich harmonies make for 40 minutes of delicious pop goodness.

cover of Sea of Cowards: The Dead Weather  Buy New or Used via amazon
3. Sea of Cowards: The Dead Weather
If Led Zeppelin were still alive (they are all dead right?) this would be their album. It’s all there, the snarls, the yelps, the howls, the heavy bass and driving drums, put this one on and “shake your hips like battleships”!

cover of The Wild Hunt: The Tallest Man on Earth  Buy New or Used via amazon
4. The Wild Hunt: The Tallest Man on Earth
Sparse…emotional…very good.

cover of Sugar: Dead Confederate  Buy New or Used via amazon
5. Sugar: Dead Confederate
Athens Georgia continues to be home to some great bands and Dead Confederate is one of those. Their second album is strong and I’m reminded of …And They Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead on this one, big important rock, and J. Mascis guests so it can’t get any better than that.

cover of Infinite Arms: Band of Horses  Buy New or Used via amazon
6. Infinite Arms: Band of Horses
A revamped lineup for their third album keeps Band of Horses delivering the hooks and choruses that we’ve come to expect.

cover of Beat the Devils Tattoo: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club  Buy New or Used via amazon
7. Beat the Devils Tattoo: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
BRMC returns with that bluesy, swampy, grunge wall of sound we’ve come to love, this album doesn’t sway from their formula and that’s a good thing.

cover of Black City: Matthew Dear  Buy New or Used via amazon
8. Black City: Matthew Dear
The album showcases a nice of mix of his techno DJ cred and singer/songwriter talents, need a Bowie/Byrne fix then this album is for you.

cover of History from Below: Delta Spirit  Buy New or Used via amazon
9. History from Below: Delta Spirit
The sophomore album from Delta Spirit dispels any worries about the dreaded slump. A solid and better album than their first actually. Fiery vocals, wailing harmonica and topical lyrics all inspired by Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History of The United States”.

cover of Fields: Junip  Buy New or Used via amazon
10. Fields: Junip
Hushed and subdued but not faint, this album absolutely glows with expansive tracks that ebb and flow over the emotional landscape.
