Live music
The 35th annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival 2004
(best solid week of fun ever spent in my life)
Favorites that I got to see live & in the flesh: Snooks Eaglin, Lazy Lester, THE GAP BAND!, The Hackberry Ramblers, Irma Thomas (ecstasy crowd waving anything resembling a white hanky….people were waving bits of toilet paper for chrise sakes), Ellis Marsalis, OLU DARA…and much more!
Man, I kneeled at Lazy Lester’s feet at the Circle Bar and untangled his microphone chord only to have him smile at me with my most favorite thing in the world….a gap between his 2 front teeth…GOD, I died and went to heaven! (it didn’t hurt that the PBR’s in a can went for 1 little old dollar)
And so much great rock and roll music at the 3rd annual Ponderosa Stomp at the Rock and Bowl.…..loved eating french fries atop a pinball game while waiting for my name to be sewn atop my right breast pocket of my bowling shirt. It helped ease my pain (a little) after being ignored by Deke Dickerson.
Club Helsinki: CJ Chenier & by the way, the food there is Stupendous! & Club Helsinki presented the Five Blind Boys of Alabama & Ollabelle (Amy Helm) at a church a few towns over from their great barrington, mass locale.
Bard’s Gamelan: Gamelan Chandra Kanchana (Golden Moon) Bard student ensemble & Gamelan Giri Mekar (Mountain Flower) mid-Hudson Valley area ensemble, founded by Garry Kvistad (Woodstock Chimes & more I’m sure)
Places to go
Mikee’s bakery: formal name..“Tivoli Bread Baking Company”
(especially the croissants: only on sat & sun, better get there by 9:45am) the Black Swan Pub in Tivoli…Mike Nickerson now owns the business….the old rhinecliff hotel sign now adorns the alter…..lucky to have a local bar worth loving.

I have a radio show at Bard “Radio Archeology” http://wxbc.bard.edu/
