Irv Rosen Poop 2013

What I listened to in 2013 So little music, so much time. Listening less. And less. As part of my slide to senility, not much new seems to speak to me at all. So this list is mostly new efforts by older artists. I guess this is the way it is meant to be. Why is it that invariably (or almost so), the current releases of “legacy” artists while good, rarely seem to approach the quality (or my perception of the quality) of their older works? Is it perception or is it real?    Buy New or Used via Amazon Richard…

What I listened to in 2012 I am starting to detect a pattern here: I listen less to, and care less about, music in presidential election years. What does it mean? No idea. But listen I did:    Buy New or Used via Amazon Ry Cooder – Election Special A more timely, more explicit state of the union statement would be hard to find. Nothing subtle here.    Buy New or Used via Amazon Andy Statman – Old Brooklyn May be my favorite of the year. Bluegrass meets klezmer meets rock. Great end to end.    Buy New or Used via Amazon Bruce…

What I listened to in 2011 Greetings from Florida, not exactly the center of the musical universe but….   Buy New or Used via amazon Nick Lowe – The Old Magic Not only did he know the bride when she used to rock and roll, but he knew her when she grew old. Gracefully. Intelligently. Quietly. Nick is simply the best songwriter and an engaging performer.   Buy New or Used via amazon Dave Alvin – Eleven Eleven Had grown tired of Dave but really liked this one. In fact, in reinvigorated my like of him.   Buy New or Used via amazon…

What I Listened to in 2010 Greetings from my new home in Florida. I must admit that I did not listen to much music this year – first I was preoccupied with selling my house and then by the actual move. In fact, my sound system has not been hooked up since probably August or September. It is still not hooked up – but will be this week. So, I really have no idea what I should have been listening to this past year. To make matters worse, I usually segregate potential POOP list albums during the year, but they…

What I Listened to in 2009 I just can’t do this anymore. Music seems to have lost most of its relevance. I listen to almost no new music, i.e. music by new artists. I only listen to new and old music from the old fogies I mostly grew up on. Why? I suppose it is meant to be this way. Today’s music does not speak to me for the most part. Is it a quality issue? Maybe. Is it older age? Probably. I am amazed at the shelf life of the music of the 60’s and 70’s. Not only for…

What I Listened to in 2001 There seemed to be a gap from mid-September on, but this is what I remember listening to and enjoying, of course, in no particular order: Nick Lowe – The Convincer • Having turned his attention from rock to sweet-sounding quiet tunes, Nick turned out an outstanding set. I still dig his mood. Dave Edmunds – Hand Picked • The other half of Rockpite self-reteases an eclectic set of (mostly) acoustic songs raging from classical to Elvis to Mason Williams. With a new replacement heart valve, Dave is in good form Bob Dylan – Love…
